Catalyst India hosted D&I Logues on September 29, 2016. The Conference featured an exciting leader-to-leader conversation between Deborah Gillis, President & CEO, Catalyst, and the iconic leader, Dr. NS Rajan, Group Chief Human Resources Officer and Member of the Group Executive Council, Tata Sons, and attendees also explored individual and organizational approaches that have intentionally made change through the four leadership behaviors that Catalyst has linked to workplace cultures of inclusion, team citizenship, and employee innovation. India Inc.: From Intention to Impact
On December 7, Catalyst India's Shachi Irde presented India Inc.: From Intention to Impact, a report concerning diversity and inclusion in the workplace as well as diversity programs currently in use in India. The presentation was also a dialogue between Shachi and the audience, who shared questions, thoughts and comments. Catalyst Commends the Passing of the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill
It is commendable that the government has passed the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Bill, which extends maternity leaves from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. This shows that organisations and the government understand the business case for having more women employees in the workforce. Therefore, the next logical step is for organisations to take further steps to ensure smooth reintegration of women returning to the workplace after maternity leave. It is essential to implement returnship programmes and fair performance management systems that do not penalize women for maternity breaks as well as to make flexible work arrangements a business strategy for all eligible employees. Companies should also make the effort to ensure their women employees feel valued, since the sooner they re-integrate, the smoother the transition back to work and productivity will be.
